Since its introduction in 1982, the Ford Type 9 gearbox has remained a firm favorite among sportscar enthusiasts and has been fitted to many Lotus 7 style cars including Westfield, Caterham, it is also a popular choice for 5 speed conversions in many Fast Fords, MG, Morgan and Triumph cars to name a few. Originally designed for the Ford Sierra and Granada, it was also fitted to other Ford models including the Transit, Capri, and even the P100 Pickup. While there are variations in input shafts, gear ratios and tailhousings, the fundamental construction remains consistent across different versions, including the Sierra XR4x4, which features a transfer unit for 4 wheel drive.
